 Olivia
I have been married since 1988 to a very loving and caring man. We are fortunate to have two wonderful teenaged girls. Hadiya, who is in France on a Rotary Youth Exchange program presently in her junior year of high schoold and Makeda my tenacious 13 year old. I am of a good dispostion and am able to see the positive side of most situations.
It has been my privilege to love and care for many babies over the years, many of whom are now teenagers
I lived in New York City from 1984-2000. While there I worked for two years as a nurse's aide in various hospitals and nursing homes and later at the request of my then agency, I switched to baby nursing.
While working as a baby nurse in New York I had the good fortune to accompany a Manhattan family to St. Moritz on their family vacation. I also had the privelege of being baby nurse to another family for both of their children, whom I am still close with.
I have worked with several families with twins in New Jersey, Bronxville and Colorado.
In 1998-2000 I volunteered at Down's State Hospital in Brooklyn as a breast-feeding peer counselor for new moms, while assisting the breastfeeding co-coordinator. During this time I also assisted the women at my church in Brooklyn with breastfeeding support and addressed them at a women's conference.
I breastfed my own daughters for 16 months and 3 years respectively. However, I am mindful of the fact that not everyone can or wants to breastfeed. Therefore, I am supportive of whatever one's choice may be.
Since moving to CO in 2000 I have worked part-time in Day Careds at a number of churches as well as with MOPS- mother's of preschoolers. As a certified postpartum doula. I sometime assist moms during the day helping them to feel comfortable with their new babies and their whole new family situation.
I worked with many premature babies particularly since moving to CO. Some of them were on oxygen, some are fed by feeding tubes and some were under the light for jaundice.
My preference wo work as an overnight baby nurse allows me to assist and teach moms how to card for their babies and transition to sleeping through the night. If it should be a mom with previous experience I lend an extra pair of hands and allow her to rest so that she would have the energy to be in a good state of mind to care for her older children.
I typically stay with families from 2 weeks-6 months. Once in a while I stay 10 months to a year.
I perfer to work with down to earth wonderful people who treat me respectfully as they want to be treated. Usually I attract like minded people.
I am finishing my certification as a lactation educator in 2007. I am a member of CAPPA, I speak some French and I am very open to people with all different backgrounds.
